Toyota Ranks Among World’s 50 Smartest Companies

A recent MIT Technology Review has named Toyota one of the world’s smartest companies, one of only two automakers to do so. Toyota is in great company, as other tech leaders such as Amazon, Facebook, and Microsoft also made the list. The review placed Toyota at #17.

Toyota is certainly happy to be included in the MIT Technology Review. “We’re very grateful to be recognized by MIT, one of the finest educational institutions in the world,” said Jim Lentz, chief executive officer of Toyota Motor North America. “Toyota’s scientists are committed to innovation and leading the way to a future of mobility that is cleaner, safer, and provides freedom of mobility for all.  In the spirit of kaizen, Toyota is committed to improving every day in the service of our customers and society.”

The high ranking came about partly to Toyota’s recent launch of the Toyota Research Institute and the release of the Toyota Mirai. The former aims to study “the future of mobility, artificial intelligence, and robotics.” The latter is one of the world’s first mass-market hydrogen fuel vehicles and has a range of over 300 miles while only emitting water vapor.

The MIT Technology Review is recognized on a national scale for coverage of science, business and technology as a global media company.
